Is the NT scan the same as the dual marker test?

No. The NT scan is an ultrasound and the dual marker is a blood test. They are usually done in the same week and read together, which gives your doctor a more accurate screening result. You can do both at Diagnos Lab.

Is the NT scan safe for my baby?

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is safe for you and your baby at every stage of pregnancy.

Do I need a doctor's prescription for a pregnancy scan?

Yes. Under the PC-PNDT Act every pregnancy ultrasound needs a doctor's referral, and you fill in a short Form F at the centre. Please bring your prescription and a photo ID.

Do you tell the baby's sex?

No. Sex determination of the foetus is not done at Diagnos Lab; it is illegal and punishable under the PC-PNDT Act, 1994.

When will I get my NT scan report?

Usually within 1–2 hours. The report is sent to your WhatsApp automatically as soon as it's ready.

ABOUT THE SCAN

What is a NT scan?

The NT (nuchal translucency) scan is an ultrasound done between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It measures the small pocket of fluid at the back of the baby's neck. Together with your age and the dual marker blood test, this measurement helps your doctor estimate the chance of chromosomal conditions such as Down syndrome. It is a screening test: it does not diagnose a condition, and your doctor will explain the result and any next steps.

What the scan checks

Nuchal translucency (the fluid at the back of the neck)
Baby's heartbeat and the number of babies
Crown–rump length, to confirm your due date
Nasal bone and early anatomy, where visible

Often done with the Dual marker blood test

Sex determination of the foetus is not done here; it is punishable under the PC-PNDT Act, 1994.
