How accurate is the baby's estimated weight?

It's an estimate from the baby's measurements and can differ from the actual birth weight by around 10–15%. Your doctor looks at the trend across scans rather than a single number.

Is a growth scan done with a Doppler?

Often, yes. If your doctor asks for a growth scan with Doppler, both are done in the same visit.

Do I need a doctor's prescription for a pregnancy scan?

Yes. Under the PC-PNDT Act every pregnancy ultrasound needs a doctor's referral, and you fill in a short Form F at the centre. Please bring your prescription and a photo ID.

Do you tell the baby's sex?

No. Sex determination of the foetus is not done at Diagnos Lab; it is illegal and punishable under the PC-PNDT Act, 1994.

When will I get my growth scan report?

Usually within 1–2 hours. The report is sent to your WhatsApp automatically as soon as it's ready.

What is a Growth scan?

A growth scan is an ultrasound later in pregnancy, usually from 28 weeks, that checks how your baby is growing. The radiologist measures the baby's head, abdomen and thigh bone to estimate weight, and checks the amniotic fluid, the placenta and the baby's position. Doctors often advise it when the bump is smaller or larger than expected, in twin pregnancies, or when the mother has diabetes or high blood pressure.
